Upgrade to QuickBooks Online and take your Billing Manager data with you!
Hi, I’m Abe from the Billing Manager team. I hope you’re enjoying using Billing Manager for your invoicing! We love you, don’t get us wrong… but sometimes we know you may need a bit more than just invoicing.
If you have had that thought, consider upgrading to QuickBooks Online.
What is QuickBooks Online?
It’s a complete online accounting solution in which you can:
- Invoice your customers (like Billing Manager!)
- Track expenses
- Sync up your bank accounts and download transactions
- Do Reporting (Profit & Loss, Balance sheet, many more…)
- Prepare for Tax Time
We’ve made it super easy to move from Billing Manager to QuickBooks Online by adding an upgrade feature to Billing Manager. With just a few clicks we’ll create a new QuickBooks Online account for you and transfer all your contacts, services and products, invoices (not draft or trashed) and payments.
But wait! How much is this going to cost me?
Your QuickBooks Online account is free for 30 days, after which it’s just $9.95. Try it out—we expect you’ll love the powerful features you get with QuickBooks Online, but if not, don’t worry.
What happens to my Billing Manager data?
The data in Billing Manager will remain untouched, so you can go back to Billing Manager if you decide QuickBooks Online isn’t for you.
How do I do it…sign me up!
Look for the green button on the top of your Billing Manager page. We like to call it a little green dog ear. Click and go!
Some last words
Now a few notes on the things we don’t export to QuickBooks Online when you upgrade (and some help for how to reenter them in QuickBooks Online):
1) Estimates – If you want to recreate any estimates in QuickBooks Online, select Customers > Create Estimate and re-enter the information.
2) Recurring invoice schedules – See this help page for how to re-enter them. However, be sure also to pause or delete the recurring invoice in Billing Manager when you do this so your customers aren’t billed from two places!
3) Logo – Check here for how to add your company logo in QuickBooks Online.
4) Product units (e.g., “per foot”) – custom units are not supported in QuickBooks Online.
5) If you have Intuit Merchant Services (accept credit cards and e-checks online), refunds are not transferred. Look here for how to enter refunds into QuickBooks Online.

Just wondering when the newest feature will be available. Currently error message says “Sorry, exporting not available right now”.
Thanks in advance for your reply!

It’s available now, but I forgot to mention there are some cases where you cannot upgrate to QuickBooks Online:
1) You use a currency other than US Dollars (QuickBooks Online doesn’t support other currencies).
2) You access Billing Manager through Small Business Finance Works.
3) You previously exported to QuickBooks Online using the old export link found in the Address Book (and meant mainly to export contacts to QBO). We do hope to support export in this case in the future, but can’t right now.
Unfortunately in the third case we’re still “advertising” the feature to you even though we shouldn’t be. We’ll correct this soon. I do apologize for the inconvenience.

So if we’ve exported the address book to QBO in the past, the new full export won’t work? Is there a way to break the link between these two? I really would like to export to QBO ASAP! Thanks.
I should say, I trialed QBO earlier in the year and felt it was too much at that time, now I’m wishing I would have stuck with it. Please advise on how I can get my current information exported over.
Thanks.

Is it possible to delete customer records. I imported customers from gmail. I added some customers to gmail and then tried a second import to see how it handled duplicates. I now have twice as many customers so I have duplicates. I figured I could do a batch delete of all the customers and try again. Is that possible?

I don’t have this link within my account? Can someone contact me to further assist. Thank you.

So does this mean I can still continue to use Billing Manager? Or once we upgrade we have to use quickbooks?

You can continue to use Billing Manager, but probably you’ll want to pick one or the other to continue with so you have all your invoices and so on in one place.

Billing Manager is $9.95 with the Merchant Account. I would assume that Quickbooks online will have an option for a Merchant Account in addition to their $9.95 cost. If so, how much more, and are the % rates comparable?
January 25, 2010 at 12:15 pm
If you already have a Merchant Account (“accept credit cards”) in Billing Manager, your Merchant Account will be usable from QuickBooks Online and the monthly rate and per transaction charges will stay the same. However, if you don’t have a Merchant Account before exporting, but later add it in QuickBooks Online, then the QuickBooks Online rates apply. These rates are listed at http://quickbooksonline.intuit.com/screen_mas.cfm. They are geared to save you money if you have a higher transaction volume. Billing Manager’s rates are geared to a lower transaction volume.

Ok so this is EXACTLY what I am looking for Quickbook online. I was sooo disappointed though when I read that it is not supporting $CAN!!?? When will you fix this?
January 30, 2010 at 9:04 am
I would like to check out upgrading to Quickbooks. I don’t see a link to do so.
IMPORTANT: Also, I keep seeing “x’s” in my account where my name etc should be.
Please advise.

I love the Billing Manager – the design is so fresh and easy to use. I recently started the free trial of Quickbooks Online and was disappointed to find that it’s not the same experience. It reminds me more of the old quickbooks that was too confusing to use.

Lame, lame, lame. Why would you offer recurring billing on billing manager, and not make it part of the basic package for quickbooks online? Why not make it so billing manager syncs with Quickbooks Pro for $9.95 a month? These options bring an amazing lack of creativity and affordability for the small business owner like myself. It frustrates me that I paid so much for a Quickbooks Pro, and have so little online integration without forking out a boatload of cash more.
