These are still the very early days of Billing Manager. We haven’t been making any noise with press and so on…yet. We’re laying low, working on the product and engaging with our new customers. That being said, we do need people to find us. So, we blogged about ourselves over on Intuit’s innovation blog. And we got ourselves listed on JumpUp.com’s Payment Tools & Services page (JumpUp.com is Intuit’s online resource to help new business owners get up and running quickly & successfully). Folks might find us over on those sites, but even if they don’t it helps our search rankings. That’s incredibly important because it seems like these days everybody finds everything they need by searching the Internet (I certainly do!). Landing at the top of search rankings seems to be a mix of art and science that goes by the name SEO (search engine optimization). There’s stuff you can do to your site to improve SEO – words you choose, the way it’s built. Then there’s stuff you can do outside your site – like getting tons of great sites and blogs and more linking to you. And that’s pretty much it – but the devil is in the details. As a curious Product Manager, it’s been fun starting to learn the in’s and out’s of this stuff. It’s a delicate balance though - because ultimately you want to have a great website that delights your customers…not one that was designed with the sole purpose of being at the top of the search rankings.

So, given that I’ve become a bit of an SEO nerd, I can now appreciate SEO humor. I came across this online slideshow of someone’s interpretation of what the Google home page would look like if it had to “play the SEO game”. Enjoy…you’ll learn a thing or two about SEO just by watching!
